In the 2011 LINQED workshop, we worked together and conceptualized a quality assurance framework for student assessment. In the 2012 Quito workshop, we will take considerable time to further explore how we can use this framework to develop a competence-based student assessment program in one's own institution. In order to achieve this goal, the first step is to use this framework as a tool to self-reflect on our own student assessment practice. In order to do this, a questionnaire called ‘CAP-quality measure’ has been designed. The CAP-quality measure uses specific indicators for 12 quality criteria to help you determine the quality of a range of student assessments implemented in a course/program. In order to prepare for the Quito workshop you, as the representative of your institution, are asked to use this CAP-quality measure to conduct a small scale pilot survey: interview 2 teachers and 2 students from a postgraduate course/program. Please send a qualitative summary of your interviews (fill in document 1b) on student assessment by May 6th to LINQED coordinator : Lai Jiang

Below are the three important documents needed for the pilot survey 1. A guide for interviewers - participants of the LINQED workshop (the interviewers) will used this document. a. Download the PDF in English version b. Download the word document to write down the qualitative summary and reflection of your interviews (Word) 2. An instruction for interviewees - please give this document to your interviewees in advance. Download the PDF in English version Please bring the records of the survey (part 3), qualitative summary and reflection (part 4 & 5) to the workshop. In the workshop, group discussion will be organized to exchange ideas regarding the following questions : - What is your understanding of the 12 student assessment criteria?
- What are the most relevant criteria for your context? Why?
- What are the results of the survey (i.e., what are the comments on the current student assessment carried out in your institution?)
- Are the answers from teachers and students coherent? If there are differences, what are they?
- Do you encounter any difficulties while conducting this survey?
- In the future if your institution would like to use this quality gauge to conduct a formal self-evaluation (large scale), what kind of support would you like to receive from LINQED?
